People by from people. More and More people want to know the person behind the brand. These days markets are driven by authenticity and more people want to know what the impact their purchase has on the planet, the economy & society so they want to know the personality behind the product/services they are spending their hard earn cash on.
Creating contact for your persona allows you to control how users perceive you and your brand, products & services. On the other hand creating content keeping your target audience persona in mind allow you to identify how you should present information to customers in the most effective way possible. Be it your website, advertisements, or social media accounts, content created with specific audience personas in mind will help drive business and create a consistent brand style and tone.
Whether I am revamping an old website, getting started on a brand new website or planning my next big build, I always follow these rules to ensure, clarity, authenticity and an engaging and user friendly experience for every site visitor.
The craft of character
Imagine you’re writing a letter. What sounds easier: addressing a group of people who have some vague commonalities or addressing an old friend? Making your audience real, personal, and specific helps you create powerful copy and, in turn, rapport with potential customers.
You don’t really have to pretend you’re writing an old friend to construct a persona (though if that works for you, go for it). What you do need to do is build fictional characters, based on individual people, who are your target group personified.
These characters should have:
- Job titles
- Day-to-day responsibilities
- Hopes and dreams
- Pains and fears
- Common objections to sales conversations
- Age
- Familial situation
- Educational level
- Political affiliations
- A location of residence
- and whatever else you deem relevant
- Do research.
- Segment your audience.
- Decide on the layout.
- Set demographic info.
- Describe Persona’s background.
- Define Persona’s goals.
- Define motivations and frustrations.
- Add other ingredients
- Create your own Persona
